Coastal Skipper

This RYA Day Skipper practical course will advance your skills of pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a cruising yacht by day in tidal waters.

This Day Skipper practical course is ideal for those with basic navigation and sailing ability. Our shorebased RYA Day Skipper course will give you the needed navigation and knowledge to perform your best on the Day Skipper practical course.

By the end of the course you should be able to comfortably skipper a yacht in familiar waters by day.

Pre Course Requirements

Some practical experience. A minimum of 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht.

Course content:

Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yachthandling Under power, yacht handling Under sail, passage planning, passage making, night cruising.
